Below is our recent interview with Sue (SuMin) Nam from OPENEDGES Technology:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: OPENEDGES Technology, Inc. (OPENEDGES) is the world’s only total memory system and AI IP platform provider, delivering NPU, DDR memory controller, DDR PHY, and on-chip interconnect IPs since 2017. Within just a few years since its establishment, OPENEDGES has earned a reputation for providing IPs with the highest level of efficiencies in performance, power consumption, and area, as well as the inherent synergy of its integrated solution by combining the IP portfolio. Our integrated IP solutions are market and silicon-proven, featuring advanced architectures and proprietary technologies that enable customers to shorten their design and verification processes. We opened its San Jose corporation in July 2021, and together with The Six Semiconductor Inc (TSS), a subsidiary of OPENEDGES, provide IPs that coordinate to maximize system-level synergies.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: As the only company to provide an integrated turn-key integrated IP platform based on proprietary technology, OPENEDGES provides total memory systems and AI platforms. During the listing process, Samsung Securities Co., Ltd. participated as the underwriter, as we applied for listing eligibility review to the Korea Exchange for listing to the KOSDAQ market on April 18th.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: Over the last four years, we have licensed our IPs for more than 30 SoC products from more than 30 international semiconductor companies and continue to gain market share in this industry. On the 18th, we filed a listing eligibility review application for listing on the KOSDAQ with the Korea Exchange. The screening process takes place prior to the IPO process getting underway, and it allows the exchange’s qualifications to be evaluated. In the second half of this year, we aim to be listed on the KOSDAQ market.
A preliminary technical assessment conducted by NICE D&B, a Global Commercial Credit Bureau in South Korea, last January gave OPENEDGES an AA grade, proving its technological and business feasibility. This was a historic event in the Korean semiconductor scene since OPENEDGES was the first one of its kind to earn this grade.
Q: What can we expect from your company in the next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: As the preliminary technical evaluation has validated our technology and marketability, we will remain dedicated to completing the remaining listing procedures this year. Also, we are currently in negotiations with global top-tier companies regarding licensing memory controller, DDR PHY, and NPU IP, which are also expected to be completed without any setbacks.

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: The semiconductor IP industry is a human intellect-intensive business, rather than manufacturing, where the collective intelligence of its members is most critical. Many of our employees already have extensive experience in global top-tier semiconductor companies, so they have deep understanding and knowledge of the industry and technology. In addition to our Seoul HQ, we are recruiting the industry’s best talents specializing in Network-on-Chip (NoC) HW & SW in San Jose and high-speed PHY in TSS in Toronto.
