Origis Energy Secures $415 Million For Texas-Based Swift Air Solar Project

Listen to this article

Origis Energy secured $415 million in funding to develop the Swift Air Solar project in Texas, with financing support from Natixis Corporate & Investment Banking and Advantage Capital. The solar facility will supply zero-emission energy to Occidental’s STRATOS Direct Air Capture plant, advancing carbon reduction efforts. This project strengthens Texas’s renewable energy sector and highlights the growing role of strategic partnerships in clean energy innovation.

Massive Investment Powers Texas Solar Expansion

Origis Energy has successfully closed a $415 million funding package to support the development of its Swift Air Solar project in Ector County, Texas. This financing is split between $290 million in construction and term debt financing and $125 million in tax equity financing. Natixis Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) served as the sole coordinating lead arranger, hedging bank, letter of credit issuer, green loan coordinator, and administrative agent for the construction and term debt financing. Advantage Capital provided the tax equity investment, reinforcing its commitment to funding impactful renewable energy initiatives.

This funding marks the third significant transaction between Origis Energy and Natixis CIB. Previous collaborations include the $750 million construction warehouse facility in August 2023 and the expansion of Origis’ $750 million development facility in March 2023.

Swift Air Solar: A Game-Changer for Clean Energy in Texas

Currently under construction, the Swift Air Solar project is scheduled to begin commercial operations by mid-2025. Once operational, it will significantly contribute to Texas’s growing renewable energy sector. Origis Energy will build, own, and operate the facility, ensuring long-term stability and efficiency in its operation.

Located in the energy-rich Permian Basin, Swift Air Solar is strategically positioned to leverage Texas’s vast solar potential. Its large-scale infrastructure will generate clean energy, supporting regional energy demands and sustainability goals.

Powering the World’s First Large-Scale Direct Air Capture Plant

The Swift Air Solar project will supply zero-emission solar power to Occidental’s subsidiary, 1PointFive, for its Direct Air Capture (DAC) facility named STRATOS. This facility, currently under development, aims to become the world’s first large-scale plant dedicated to removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

By providing renewable energy to power STRATOS, Origis Energy directly supports the development of advanced carbon capture technologies. This collaboration aligns with broader industry efforts to mitigate climate change by integrating clean energy with innovative carbon reduction solutions.
