Below is our recent interview with John Tryo, the Founder & CEO at WorkMonger:

“Diversity is at the forefront of everything we do here at WorkMonger,” notes John Troy, Founder and CEO. “We believe in the power of people to transform the world, and by diversifying the leadership responsible for educating our nation’s children, we’re able to ensure the leaders driving this change deeply connect with the communities that they serve and bring new perspectives and approaches to the table.”

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?

A: WorkMonger’s mission is to ensure every student has access to an excellent public education. One of the primary levers to achieve that is ensuring the right talent are working in the right roles at mission-driven education organizations. We serve education organizations to help them build the right team through a streamlined hiring process that leverages technology, data, and deep sector expertise.

WorkMonger is a full-service, algorithm-assisted, talent search firm for the education sector specializing in non-teaching positions. WorkMonger provides advanced, technology-enabled, recruitment and selection services for entry-level to C- level roles within education with a central focus on educational equity.

At the core of our company is the deep belief that all children deserve access to an equitable and excellent education that ultimately prepares them for a successful life of their choosing. WorkMonger has a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and makes it a priority to help place individuals who reflect our communities that we serve. Additionally, WorkMonger implements advanced technology-enabled recruitment and selection practices to ensure equitable processes and experiences for candidates and partners alike. Over 65% of our hired candidates self-identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC).

Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?

A: WorkMonger has placed more than 150 educational leaders nationally. Over 65% of candidates identify as BIPOC. 86% of candidates since January 2019 are still with their organization. 28% of them have been promoted to more senior roles. We placed 61% more candidates in 2021 than in 2020 and we have over 45,000 internal national jobseekers with detailed profiles available for work. Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?

A: We believe all organizations should have opportunity and access to top talent, so we offer affordable and transparent pricing options. Employers choose the level of support that fits their team, and they only pay for what they need. Further, WorkMonger provides customized solutions and affordable pricing, which means employers can leverage expert recruitment services for any level of hire or role.

Most education-sector recruitment firms charge 30-35% of first-year compensation for a placement. On average, that adds up to more than $30,000 in fees. We’re different. Our algorithm-enabled recruitment options begin at only 10% of first-year compensation, making WorkMonger the most affordable full-service recruitment organization in our sector for academic roles (principals, school leaders, curriculum design, instructional coaches, etc) and non- academic roles (data, finance, fundraising, marketing, operations, strategy, talent, etc).

Q: What can we expect from your company in the next 6 months? What are your plans?

A: WorkMonger is committed to excellence, impact, and innovation. With that in mind, over the next 6 months we are focused on providing excellent talent sourcing and selection services to our clients for their non-teaching roles. Furthermore, as demand for our services has increased, we plan on continuing our growth efforts, thereby enhancing our impact by helping more clients achieve their mission-critical work through building the right teams. Lastly, we are always looking for new ways to provide additional value to our customers at affordable prices. To that end, we have several innovative talent sourcing and selection services that we plan on rolling out over the next 6 months.
