Below is our recent interview with Anthea Palmer, International Marketing & Publicity at Pop Preservation Society:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: Pop Preservation Society was founded in 2018 as a one-stop artist services company. It includes a record label, and a dedicated team of music professionals including record producers, designers, promoters, distributors, business developers and other creatives. It was founded by entrepreneur Victor Stranges, who has a long-standing career as musician, writer, producer, and music industry visionary.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: The first two artists signed by the label are young Melbourne indie rock band LIPSTEREO and music/film project SATURDAY’S CHILD.
Pop Preservation Society released both of these artists’ music to radio globally to stunning results. LIPSTEREO’s debut single ‘Stop’ is receiving significant airplay in the US, Canada, UK, Denmark, Croatia and the Netherlands. The video for ‘Stop’ has attracted 32,000 YouTube views since its release two months ago and was recently aired nationally for four weeks in a row on ABCTV’s music program, ‘Rage.’
SATURDAY’S CHILD’s debut release ‘COLA’ is receiving significant airplay in the US, Canada, UK, France, Croatia, West Africa, Belgium, Portugal, Lithuania, Denmark, Finland, Norway & Cape Verde. The group has also just released a stunning piece of cinematography for its debut music video for ‘COLA’ hiring one of Melbourne’s most talented young film directors, Daniel Woods.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: After hearing horror stories about debts owed by artists to record companies, and the draconian measures used to avoid paying musicians, Stranges decided to create a network of music professionals, dedicated to providing authentic artist services.
The Pop Preservation Society network has some of the most genuine and talented music professionals in the business including Mark Opitz AM, who is regarded as one of the best music producers in the world. His contributions to classic Australian rock cannot be understated. Cutting his teeth with Harry Vanda and George Young as young engineer at Alberts, he was involved in recordings for AC/DC, Rose Tattoo and John Paul Young. A multi-decade career has seen Opitz produce, mix and engineer numerous classic Australian rock albums for seminal artists including The Angels, INXS, Divinyls and Cold Chisel. Mark actively works with Pop Preservation Society, having recently completed production of Lipstereo’s debut EP.
Another notable inclusion in the network is radio promoter and PR manager, Michael Matthews. A forty plus year career filled with many achievements has made him one of the true legends of the Australian music business. He has launched the careers of countless Australian artists including Savage Garden, Killing Heidi and Australian Crawl. He has also worked with some of the biggest names in the business including Crowded House, David Bowie, The Saints, Blondie, The Butterfly Effect, Paul McCartney, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blur, Radiohead, Iron Maiden, Duran Duran and Russell Morris.
“We are building a story for our artists. It’s about the music. My philosophy is to start off by helping people, no strings attached. It’s not a strategy I use to “get the business” but it’s a bona fide offer to for me to be involved in a project, because I believe in it. Life is too short to be involved in projects that are lifeless and only about the dollar.” Victor Stranges
Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months?
A: “We are working hard at breaking artists internationally so we want to get some runs on the board as far as the label goes. In addition, we are taking on one or two new artists that we really believe in and serving their needs to help them make the best music possible. We currently have a temporary office in Collins Street, Melbourne but we hope to find a new home within the next six months and keep building the team.” Victor Stranges
Q: What are your long-term plans?
A: “It is very important for me, personally, that we have some of the finest songwriters in our stable of artists. I think of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Carole King or if you want to go back further, Boyce & Hart, Jimmy Webb or Bobby Darin. They moved the needle and we want to create an environment where songwriters, recording artists and performers, whether they are heritage or upcoming, can create timeless music. That is the holy grail and not as easy as it sounds. There is a lot of hard work and nurturing that goes into making careers of note. That would mean that a medium to long term goal is creating a music publishing arm to the company.” Victor Stranges
Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: We believe that songwriters, musicians, recording artists and performers are the foundation of the music business, because content is king! We encourage musicians to be in the BUSINESS of music, taking responsibility, control and ownership of their career, creative works and digital assets.
