Below is our recent interview with Matt Artz, Head of Product at Artmatcher:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: Artmatcher is a freemium service for galleries, artists, and buyers to connect across the worldwide marketplace. By learning what users like, Artmatcher matches them with parties that offer their preferred style of artwork. It will also address educational needs for buyers who are not well versed in art.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: Research with stakeholders in the art community has taught us that relationships and education are paramount to fostering mutually beneficial relationships between buyers, artists, and galleries. Related to that, I would suggest including these quotes.
“People are often intimidated walking into galleries, artist studios, and sometimes even museums. They feel like they lack the knowledge to speak intelligently about art. We’re hoping to address that lack of confidence and make our users more educated and less uncomfortable,” said Scott Stiner, founder of Artmatcher.
“One of the insights revealed in our UX research, as well as through interviews on the Artmatcher podcasts, was how difficult it is for artists and galleries to find the right partners,” said Matt Artz, Head of Product.
Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: Artmatcher was founded in 2020 to create a mobile-first, multi-sided social and education app to deliver real value while modernizing the art market. Based on our research, we learned there was an opportunity to strengthen ties in the art market that existing digitalization efforts and COVID have strained. We quietly launched the Artmatcher mobile app for iOS a few months ago, and last week launched the Android version. It is currently available in 33 countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Switzerland, and the European Economic Area (“EEA”).
We are having our official VIP launch party in Miami Beach on December 2nd to coincide with Miami Art Week.
Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: While we have been conducting UX research throughout the entire development process, we are looking forward to getting feedback now that we are officially launched. Based on how the users respond that will dictate our next steps. However, we are looking forward to working with institutional partners and rolling out educational content that will help address the feeling many buyers have when they enter a gallery.
Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: The best thing about Artmatcher is that we are not concerned with being a marketplace and taking a piece of an art sale. We are focused on relationships and education. We believe that human relationships and greater knowledge are more valuable, to the business of art than simply another digital marketplace.
