Below is our recent interview with Tosin Adelowo, Co-Founder & CMO at Chekkit:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: We build technology solutions that help connect manufacturers of pharmaceutical and consumer products directly to their end-users. Our solutions help optimize the flow of data and insights between both parties which is why we’re a consumer data company at the core.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: Oh yes, as part of winning the GSA Africa commerce tech award, we’re eligible to receive equity investment from a fund being managed by the organizers. We’re currently finalizing a bridge round so connected investors in the space where we operate can definitely reach out before it’s closed.
Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: Like I said before, at our core, we’re a data company. The level of consumer insights we offer our partner brands is what differentiates us from the competition. We collect the consumer data directly from end-users in 2 ways;
- Product Serialisation & Verification: It’s long been a global standard for sensitive products like medicines to be serialized, that is, have unique codes on each product unit carrying information like production dates, batch number, product history, etc. Chekkit generates and manages the serialized codes on behalf of the manufacturers and also makes them readable by mobile phones so the end-users can verify their authenticity and provide feedback to the manufacturers.
- Marketing & Engagement Campaigns: Using our software, manufacturers can run activities like sales promotions, activations, loyalty programs, and reward their end-consumers for buying their products or engaging with their brand. Most manufacturers already run such campaigns but they’re being sabotaged by middlemen diverting rewards meant for actual buyers. Using Chekkit ensures that doesn’t happen and these brands can see all that’s going on with their campaigns right from their laptops
With the data collected from the processes above, chekkit generates insights on things like product performance, consumer demographics, consumer behavior, purchase patterns, side effects, and so on. Another thing you can do is to really personalize your marketing communications. Because you know so much about your consumers and what they like, you can use our bulk messaging tools to communicate at scale but on an individual level as well.
Our data basically helps brands to acquire, engage, and retain millions of consumers at once.
Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: We will be announcing our partnership with SAP which means that manufacturers using SAP’s Advanced Track & Trace for Pharmaceuticals (ATTP) can start using Chekkit just at the click of a button. You see, in developed countries, serialization is compulsory for drugs meaning that medicines already have a unique data matrix code on them. However, the codes can only be read by special scanners. By integrating Chekkit with SAP, we get access to their serialized codes and make them smarter, ie, readable by phones, starting the engagement and data collection processes I mentioned earlier.
It is also great to mention that we’ll also be working with GS1 in the Nigerian market to actualize the serialization regulation that kicks in by 2025. Pilot programs with local pharmaceutical manufacturers will begin in the coming months.

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: We’re very big on customer service and building relationships, both when it comes to our clients and our internal team. For example, there have been cases where we had to work closely with clients to ensure their marketing strategies were on-point so execution with our software is hitch-free. As a matter of fact, we don’t sleep. 24/7 someone is always available to take that call from a client who’s having difficulties and help out.
This is why we have retained all but 2 of the brands we’ve worked with over the years.
