Below is our recent interview with Halleck Cui, Director of Design at Black Horse:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: Yes, we create useful and meaningful visuals that help biomedical companies display their products or services in effective ways. We prototype medical devices with CAD models and 3D printing, create 2D/3D animation, and develop a variety of other customer interfaces that boost engagement with their audiences, such as logo design and UI/UX. As the founder of Black Horse Animation & Design, I am a 10+ year video-game artist who decided to apply entertainment art skills to things that affect people’s lives. We’re here to make biotech look cool.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: At the Laser Surgery and Medicine Convention, we were recognized for our expertise, and received new requests for our services. We will be working closely with practitioners and manufacturers in providing 3D models for mass production and animations that aid the presentation of their laser technology. The world will get to know the wonders that medical laser technology can do, including skin improvement, wound healing, hair removal, and body contouring, and people will be asking for more.
Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
One of our most important areas of expertise is helping biotech companies with their physical products. Many need to complement their science with hardware such as plastic materials, metals, resin, and more. Before spending tens of thousands of dollars on injection molding for mass production, they are able to take advantage of our design stage, in which we use 3D printing. This mitigates their financial risk.
They work closely with us to find the best form factors for their needs. Considering all possible constraints given by their science, we help them achieve this through 3 steps: Sketch, Model, and Print (3D printing). We go through as many iterations as we need, including collaborating with their injection molding company of choice, until we create the perfect prototype. Great visualizations can change the world when combined with scientific content.
Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: We’re offering a huge discount to help small biotech companies rise and be better established in the playing field. We’re aiming to provide all our services – websites, logos, app design, 3D/2D graphics, and more — at an affordable, competitive price. The goal is to help as many biotech companies as humanly possible which, in turn, will help provide the world with better health. It’s these companies visions that need to be conveyed, and we’re the best people for the job in creating these visual footprints.
Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
We have useful resources available to us at Rady UCSD, since I graduated from there. Companies working with us can have access to investor pitch fests, business advisors, high-value speakers, and more. Our visuals are business oriented so we consider what helps your company grow with content that lasts.
It’s also really fun working with us! All of our staff are extremely thrilled to be here and we love what we do. We’re also very transparent about showing our process and what goes on “behind the scenes”. Clients are kept in the loop during the entire design process; we work as a team. You bring the science; we’ll bring the art… and business!
