Below is our recent interview with Joana Fonseca Orvalho, Career & Mindset Coach at Coaching for Professionals:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: Coaching for Professionals is a career coaching company that focuses on helping women to define their next career step, based on what brings them joy. We focus on understanding what success means for every single one of our clients and we support them to achieve just that; giving them all the tools they need to achieve their professional goals.
Career happiness is something that looks extremely different from one person to the other and so it is important to spend the time defining what it means for you: without understanding what makes you tick professionally, you won’t be able to build a career plan that truly fits you.
The company was founded by myself, Joana Fonseca Orvalho, and I am a Career & Mindset coach certified by the World Coach Institute (WCI). On top of this, I have over 13 years of experience in the banking industry in London, where I’ve managed several teams and developed a wide range of inter-personal skills.
Q: Any highlights from your recent activity?
A: Back in May 2022, I launched a book that became an international best-seller in several categories: “Creating Joy: Changemakers Share Wisdom, Rituals & Practices For Living A Joy-Filled Life”.
In this book, I’ve shared my personal story on how I overcame demotivation while having the perfect career on paper; how unhappiness can hit you by surprise and the key lessons I took from it. On top of that, I share the key steps of my signature career coaching program ‘Find Your Passion’ that helps you to identify what you should be doing with your career, as well as overcoming all the fears and doubts to get your dream job/ career.
My main motivation to contribute to this anthology was to spread my message to as many women as I possibly can: we all need to focus and deal with our negative feelings as they appear, as supressing them will only lead to these feelings being spread across all areas of your life. And that ultimately, we all deserve to be happy in every little thing that we do!

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: We offer a 3 months/ 12 weeks career coaching program that focus on three key areas: I. Knowing and Understanding You; II. Believe in You; and III. Having the Right Mindset.
Throughout these 3 months, we work together to build an effective career plan: defining your goals in detail and building you up for sucess by creating habits and tools to support you in achieving all the milestones.
We work together in weekly coaching sessions plus homework in between sessions: the homework is key as these are all the self-analysis exercises.
Coaching is a very personal self-discovery journey so, in order to generate benefits, the person investing needs to dedicate time and energy to our time together, as well as all the activities they need to do on their own time.
We are here to support and guide, but the real work is done by the client – and that’s the beauty of it! Coaching is not about giving advice, but about empowering our clients to make their choices and create the life they really desire for themselves.
Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What will this look like?
A: We will be launching group coaching after the summer, on top of our 1:1 services (which we have been offering since 2018).
In group coaching, the women benefit from connecting more closely with other women that are going through the same exact experience and that alone can be a huge motivational factor. When we work as a group, we focus on leveraging the fact that we are creating a community that has the same objective and we all support each other.
The beauty of this though, is that support is still available in between sessions on a personal level, so you will always have your specific needs answered.

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: All that we do is 100% personal and tailored to your needs. We always ensure that a specific need or even the pace of development of all our clients is honoured, so that they can all experience a positive transformational journey.
Sometimes when we hear that a program has a standard structure, our brains immediately assume that the whole approach is standardised, but that is not the case. We have a skeleton of topics/ areas that we cover as I feel is extremely important to have a sense of direction and understand roughly the areas we will be focusing on. But it’s equally important to understand that our approach, particularly when we work 1:1, is to ensure that our coaching fits and benefits the client (full stop).
